Favorite Fictional Schools

Reading introduced me to tons of fictional school that I know are much better than the schools I went to. I actually wonder if reading is a good idea since it gives me the idea that reality isn’t good enough.  Well, I can’t do anything about anyway.

I spent a great deal of time before imagining that I’m studying somewhere. If you’re a book lover, I’m pretty sure you did the exact same thing. I can’t possibly believe that you’re studying elsewhere.  Of all the fictional schools out there, there are three that definitely top my list:

  • HOGWARTS’S SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY – Don’t tell me you didn’t wait for your Hogwarts letter because I won’t believe you one bit. I was 9 when I first read Harry Potter and I waited and waited for the letter to arrive but it sadly didn’t. I ended up having to settle for an old red bricked school come September. It was heart-breaking.
  • CAMP HALF-BLOOD – How cool is it to be a half-god and stay for a year or a summer in a training camp for half-bloods? I was in college when I read the Percy Jackson series and I was really tempted to drop out of college and find this training camp. I’d rather yield swords than do some science experiments.
  • BATTLE SCHOOL – If you haven’t read Ender’s Game yet, then you should. It’s one of the most intense science fiction books I’ve read, and I can’t wait for the movie. Anyway, Battle School is where children of the future are taught how to fight. I may not be able to study there but I still have some hope for my kids.

I’m an adult now, but I guess my fantasies and dreams are still childish.

Make Money Out of Your Interests

In this age of connectivity and diverse interests, you can find so many things to do to take in some extra cash. And it need not be something that’s boring or uninteresting to you. Do you know that you can actually make use of your hobbies to make money? Well, it is possible! What you have to do is zero in on what you like to do and start making money out of that.

To help you start up with your own ideas, here are some avenues I’ve discovered for myself:

Internet Jobs

Since I’m hooked on the internet, it’s very efficient to find jobs that uses it. Are you aware that there are now a lot of clients who will pay you to do some copywriting, read or organize their emails, do some web searches and other online activities? It’s all true. So, go online right away, search for a probable client and get paid for your online stay. Just make sure they’re legitimate clients who will value and compensate your work properly.

Tour Guiding

I love the outdoors and I love going to places I’ve never been before for adventures. I began accepting tour guiding jobs when a friend’s friend asked me to. And I don’t have to go that far. I happen to live near an ecopark, so on weekends, I’m signed up to tour people around the trails, the lagoon premises, and the mini-zoo. Nothing beats stretching your muscles by walking under the sun, through nature trails with the company of new people. And I’m getting paid. What could be better than this?

Photography

I’ve always been interested in photography, so when a friend offered to take me in as a photographer for her newly-opened business, I was ecstatic. The pay was relatively low compared to the other seasoned photographers, but I’m not complaining. Everybody has to start somewhere, and I’m looking at it as a way to build my portfolio and improve on the craft. And like my other part-time jobs, I’m enjoying every minute.

I hope this entry inspired you to re-evaluate what interests of yours can actually give you extra cash. It’s like playing while you’re getting paid at it. 🙂

Tips to Make You Write

Writing is a tough task not just for students but for writers like me. Allotting time for it can sometimes be hard. For students, they should write, so they can know how interesting and fun it is. While writers should continue writing, so they can develop their skills for it. So, here are ways to allot time for writing to learn more of it.

Take writing a challenge to overcome. Sometimes when we feel challenged, we push ourselves to try and succeed it. The moment we take it as a challenge, we are gonna prove ourselves that we can face and accomplish every challenge we have.

Determine the positive and negative effect of writing to us and decide if we are going to pursue writing. But of course this may not be applied to academic writing as this is a requirement for students to pass a term. It just means that, if writing makes each of us a better person, then pursue it.

Set a perfect day to write a particular writing task. A day we are free and ready to open our mind and make good stories. Sometimes, there is a mood for writing based on our personal mood.

Make our work place quite inviting to perfom tough tasks. A dull environment can make someone lazy for work.

Travel and discover. This can make us write good stories. Sometimes we just need to be inspired in order for us to write a piece.

Some Camera Lovin’

One of the things I can never live without is my camera. A lot of my friends don’t understand my fascination with taking photographs but that’s cool with me. All I know is that taking pictures of stuff that made an impact on my life is something that I truly enjoy and will keep on doing for as long as I can.

My love for photography started when I was eight years old. See, my dad was a photojournalist during his golden years and he had a bad habit of taking his work home. Being the rascal that I was backed then, I became curious with his craft and later did I realized that I was shooting things on my own with a point and shoot cam that came from my old man. Although I never had the chance to develop the films I used, it was enough to get me interested on the craft.

The thing that hooks me the most with photography is that it allows me to immortalize precious moments. Yes, memories are good and all but the human brain (especially mine) can only store so much information. Its like I stop time whenever I click my cam and everything just stays still on my lens. I have tons of pictures with me in my computer and old albums and each one of them recorded an important part of my life. Heck, I even have pictures of events that I barely recall. They are sort of a personal reference for yours truly.

Pictures are also something that I can pass onto my future children. I still remember the days when my parents would take out a dusty album full of photos of people I didn’t even know or care about. Still, it was a moment of bonding between me and my mom and dad which I will forever treasure. I still have that album of strangers (yes, it was handed down to me) and it still takes me to a walk down memory lane every now and then.  I want my kids to have that kind of moment for their them selves. Something to remember me by when I’m six feet under.
No one can ever take my precious camera away from me. They can try prying it from my cold dead hands but its never going to leave my side for as long as I draw breath. Its my passion, my legacy, my life.
